About the work

DVR Movement’s book The Age of Freedom is described by the group as “a catechism and guide to housebuilding from the Age of the Khaganate, compiled before DVR left for the village of Gornovodnoe in the north of the Primorye Region.” It was conceived as a “manifesto on a new form of collectiveness, joint life, and artistic creation, but as it was being written it took on the form of a grimoire about dreams and death, the sea and the taiga, delicate connections and the endless feast of the Ussurians.”

The book comprises ten unbound sheets in mounts. The text of the book is handwritten and illustrated using photographs and collages by DVR Movement participants made from various materials. The pages are kept in a beaded, velvet‑covered case.

The book was created as part of the Garage Library project Single Copy.
