"It is high time to comprehend this process of walking and creating, which some vulgarizers give a trite name of a walk.<…> We should, no, we must give some loading to every human walking unit, and this unit, comrades, shall make a great walking work."
Ilya Ilf and Evgeny Petrov. The Laughing Unit.

Garage Center for Contemporary Culture presents an education program Adventures of the Walking Unit within the exhibition Temporary Architecture of Gorky Park: from Melnikov to Ban. The program includes a series of lectures, tours and activities for families.

20 October - 9 December 2012

Garage Centre of Contemporary Culture offers to have a walk through time and accompanied by our lecturers to find answers to the following questions: What did people see in the parks in the 1920s and 1930s? What defines temporary architecture? How has the park shaped the way visitors behave? How does the park suggest contemporary change, and why? And finally, what does the ‘very process of walking and creating’ mean?

The series of lectures will be presented by well-known theorists and architectural historian, experts in modern urban space and specialists in the art of the 20-30s of the last century, such as: Gilles Clément, Tatyana Voroncova, Boris Pasternak, Marina Khrustaleva, Nikolai Malinin, Maria Fadeeva, Evert Verkhagen. The participants of the "Pig-pile" discussion will debate about the phenomenon of the park using both words and images. Tours for adults will be held daily within the exposition. There will also be three exhibition tours given by renowned art historians and historians of architecture Alexey Petukhov, Aleksandra Selivanova and Irina Chepkunova.
