DESCRIPTION

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art hosts shnit Worldwide Shortfilmfestival for the third year running.

This year shnit will be taking place in Russia and seven other countries across four continents at the same time. The festival’s program includes national and international competitions and Garage Screen curator, critic Evgeny Gusyatinsky will be on shnit’s National Jury.

Garage will screen works by Icelandic, Danish, Dutch, Swiss, South African, and other filmmakers who are not very well known in Russia. National programs will feature both genre cinema and experimental works at the intersection of film and video art. Garage will host a premiere of Arrival, the directorial debut by actress Alina Nasibullina, in which she reinterprets the Parable of the Ten Virgins in a sequence of poetic female monologues. Other screenings include a comedy by Mikhail Mestetsky, a crime drama by Axinja Gog, and Fuel, Mikhail Arkhipov’s grand homage to the Soviet avant-garde starring Nikita Kukushkin.

International Competition DARK WHITE

A Finnish clerk who lacks confidence gets a special gift, young Polish users explore Chatroulette and a translator working from home changes her life on the New Year’s Eve. The DARK WHITE segment of shnit’s international competition features films from Finland, Poland, France, the Netherlands, and Canada.

National Competition MADE IN RUSSIA 1

Shnit’s national competition features the best shorts made in Russia over the past few years. The program includes a sports drama, a picture about the release of hostages, an homage to the Soviet avant-garde, and much more.

International Competition WORLDWIDE COMPETITION 3

This section features shorts from Africa, Australia, the two Americas, the Middle East, and Europe. Irish drug dealers remember the country’s history, South Africa’s authorities wage a war against film pirates and sexy dancers are there to help those is ready to give up on life.

International Competition DRAMATIC GREEN

The program features a horror story set in the quiet of Belgium, a manifestation of the Roman god Bacchus, and a party at the police station. DRAMATIC GREEN is a selection of works by filmmakers from Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, and Switzerland.

International Competition GENTLE MAGENTA
