In July, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art and PERFORM Art Film Festival will be showing their joint film program Legends and Provocateurs at Garage Screen summer cinema.
The program features five films devoted to well-known iconoclast artists whose works have defied the notions of what is acceptable in the art world, questioned rules and hierarchies, scandalized and challenged the viewers, instigating reflection. Egon Schiele: Death and the Maiden is a drama devoted to the great modernist who was repeatedly accused of pornography. Vandals a new piece by Darya Khrenova, who previously made a documentary about Pyotr Pavlensky, is a kind of a video guide of Moscow Actionism, which will be followed by the experimental film Ostrich, Monkey and The Grave by the Moscow Actionist Oleg Mavromatti. Dalí's Last Masterpiece by David Pujol tells the story of Salvador Dalí's last and unfinished project—a theater and museum in Figueres based on his own designs. The Incomparable Rose Hartman is devoted to arguably the most acclaimed photographer of New York’ City’s iconic Studio 54, Mudd Club and Chelsea Gallery.
