Family Program: 2nd Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art

DESCRIPTION

Garage invites audiences to visit the Museum's Family Days, where they will embark on a fascinating journey through the valleys, islands, and cities of the 2nd Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art.

Each of the Family Days bears a "geographical" title, referencing the Triennial's sections. Traveling around the Triennial, Family Days participants, accompanied by the Museum's educators, artists, and guest experts, will be introduced to the show's key themes and afterward engage in creative workshops.

On offer for children aged five years and older, there will be a Marathon of Art Techniques. Along with getting acquainted with the works of the Triennial's contributing artists, participants will learn more about its "know-how" and have an opportunity to make their own works.

For children aged 8–12 years, the Museum has designed a series of meetings with the artists represented by the 2nd Garage Triennial of Russian Contemporary Art. Participants will get acquainted with the artists and their practices, find answers to their questions, and create works based on the pieces on show at the Triennial.

A special space in the Mezzanine behind Garage Bookshop will open for visitors aged from 0 to 5 years, where kids and parents will be able to relax or read books from our special selection together with the Museum's pedagogues.

Family Day: Island of Memory

Family Day participants will find themselves in a tiny but very important place—on the Island of Memory. The Museum's guides will introduce them with the works on view at the Skylight. Together with Garage's educators, scientists, and artists, participants will reflect on memory mechanisms and learn more about the work of the brain. During the practical class, they will be invited to make a pictorial print and capture a memorable story on canvas.

Family Day: Color Valley

The journey to Color Valley is, obviously, full of bright colors! This Family Day's participants will attend three creative workshops. Accompanied by the Museum's teachers and Triennial's artists, they will explore a variety of approaches to using color in art. What role does color play in appliqué designs? And in painterly patterns? How is a colored abstract piece created unintentionally? The trip to Color Valley will provide answers to these and many other questions.

Sunday, November 1

Family Day: City of Figures

The City of Figures is open to the public. Participants will get to know some bizarre characters invented by contemporary Russian artists, train their skills in Sergey Laushkin's own technique, create a trendy outfit based on the pieces by Xenia Dranysh and model in fur, inspired by the work of the sculptor Sabir Heybatov.

Sunday, November 29
Time
13:00–16:00

Family Day: A Sea of Sounds

Entitled A Sea of Sounds, the year 2020's final Family Day will introduce the works on show at the Triennial that involve sound as a medium. Visitors will have the opportunity to try autodrawing—a technique that Anna Tereshkina implements in her practice, and create a musical landscape, as in the video work by Alexander Agafonov. During a meeting with sound artist Sergey Filatov, meanwhile, group members will study the relationship between the visual and the auditory and create their own audio-visual pieces.
