DESCRIPTION

Garage Screen and Fields Experimental Music Festival announce their joint program Screening, a two-day cycle of audiovisual performances.

On October 9–10, Garage Screen summer cinema will be hosting an ambitious experiment featuring avant-garde musicians teamed up with video and media artists, aimed at bringing their own works to the screen.

On the opening day, guitarist Pavel Dodonov will run a joint improvisation with the artist TAU, saxophonist Alexander Serechenko (solo.operator) will perform together with the artist Katya Pryanik and a neural network, while in the finale, the Children's Musical Instrument Ensemble will perform their compositions using children's synthesizers and plastic pistols.

On the second day, music painter X.Y.R. will present an underwater utopia in the New Age style, while video artist Mikhail Grigoriev will act as an illustrator who will transfer the story to the screen. The avant-garde storyteller Zurkas Tepla will introduce a narrative sound deconstruction, as well as an essay and a video sequence assembled from YouTube videos selected based on keywords. The percussion quartet Drumazhur will perform an academic opus by Anna Mikhailova on four drum kits, the score of which the audience will be able to follow in real-time on the screen.

Screening 1

The first day’s program consists of three performances. Avant-guard guitarist Pavel Dodonov and artist TAU will create an improvisation using complex sound forms and an invented language of graphic symbols. Saxophonist Alexander Serechenko aka solo.operator, who experiments with gadgets and prepared instruments, will present a collaboration with Katya Pryanik and a neural network that they have programmed to create visual forms. Headliners on this day are ADMI (an Ensemble of Children’s Musical Instruments), whose toys, used to produce sounds, will also become protagonists in a visual story.

Screening 2

The program of the second day consists of three performances. Painter-in-music X.Y.R. will present a new-age utopia devoted to his fish, which video artist Mikhail Grigoryev will transfer to the screen. Avant-garde storyteller Zurkas Tepla will deconstruct sound and write an essay based on which a video collage will be generated during his performance. The drumming quartet Drumazhur will perform a contemporary classical piece by Anna Mikhaylova on four drum sets equipped with piezoelectric sensors that will synchronize the visuals to their rhythms.
