DESCRIPTION

The program of the second day consists of three performances. Painter-in-music X.Y.R. will present a new-age utopia devoted to his fish, which video artist Mikhail Grigoryev will transfer to the screen. Avant-garde storyteller Zurkas Tepla will deconstruct sound and write an essay based on which a video collage will be generated during his performance. The drumming quartet Drumazhur will perform a contemporary classical piece by Anna Mikhaylova on four drum sets equipped with piezoelectric sensors that will synchronize the visuals to their rhythms.

X.Y.R

The ambient inventor X.Y.R. likes devoting his albums to various phenomena, from outer space and the land of Eldorado to his own imaginary tropical holiday. His upcoming album Aquarealm is no exception: it is devoted to the fish that he keeps in a tank at his home. These fish will be the protagonists in X.Y.R.’s audiovisual performance with video artist Mikhail Grigoryev, inviting the audience to experience the peaceful underwater life.

Zurkas Tepla

A genius of clever atonal compositions and master of enchanting and revolting sounds, Zurkas Tepla is preparing an audiovisual performance based on a generative-narrative principle. As he plays, an essay he wrote in advance will be projected onto one screen, while an algorithm will play fragments of YouTube videos suggested by the keywords in his text on the other.

We have already seen Zurkas Tepla include video collages, text annotations and even proper literary works in his performances. Social insecurity, political hypocrisy, and media intoxication among his recurrent subjects, he uses music to reflect on the horror of our reality, invariably with an element of hysterical irony.

Drumazhur

Four drum sets and four avant-garde drummers from Moscow will create a whirlwind of sound that will find a visual expansion on the screen and in the lighting through the use of piezoelectric sensors.

In a battle of the drummers featuring Oksana Grigoryeva, Andrey Kim, Sergey Bolotin, and Pyotr Ototsky, all musicians have their own improvisation tactics. Grigoryeva likes black grooves, Kim is known for his fast double pedal hardcore, Bolotin fills rhythmic structures with spiky detail, and Ototsky condenses the sonic space with clever non-rhythmical trills. This time they face a challenging task: instead of improvisation, they will interpret a contemporary classical score by Anna Mikhaylova. Each drummer’s part will be accompanied by a separate visual track triggered by their sound.
