This section features avant-garde and experimental films that push the boundaries of cinema and bring it closer to contemporary art. They look as much at home in museums and galleries, as they do in cinemas.

ABOUT MIEFF

Moscow International Experimental Film Festival was established in 2016 with a strong aspiration to create a new cultural institution that would provide a close look at a wide range of experimental practices with the moving image. MIEFF is an international showcase platform welcoming up-and-coming as well as experienced filmmakers from around the world and will lay the foundation for a new generation of artists in our country, facilitate interdisciplinary dialogue, and engage a wider creative young audience with this brave approach to seeing things differently in film.

Victory Day (Den’ Pobedy)

Focused on Victory Day celebrations by the Soviet Memorial in Treptower Park in Berlin, Sergei Loznitsa’s conceptual meditation explores human memory, our understanding of history, its continuity and disruptions.

The screening is preceded by two short films by Sergei Loznitsa – Reflections (2014, 17 min.) and The Old Jewish Cemetery (2015, 20 min.)
