Garage Screen. Cherchez la femme: Swiss Cinema Weekend

Date

Place

Garage Auditorium

DESCRIPTION

For the first time, Garage is a partner of the Swiss Cinema Weekend, which this year has the title Cherchez la femme. The Weekend celebrate its fifth anniversary in 2018. Taking place in fall, it introduces audiences to the latest releases, as well as films which have received awards at national or international film festivals in the past.

The theme this year is women and the program includes documentary and feature films shot predominantly by women which go beyond merely telling their own story, also uncovering important stories in the wider world. The French, German, and Italian language films portray women of all ages, professions, and interests and provide an introduction to representatives of the film industry, including directors, actresses, producers, directors of photography, cinema historians, and costume designers.

The program selected for Garage includes four films with a focus on creative women: an internationally renowned female pianist; one of the first female directors in Switzerland; a female writer and traveler, the first European to conquer Turkestan, among other far-flung places; and the only feature film, which brings the program to a close and tells the story of Sarah who loves theater, but cannot always find there the answers to the problems posed by growing up.
