Nature. The End of Art. Environmental Landscapes. Alan Sonfist
In Alan Sonfist's visionary work, nature becomes art; it is brought directly into art to create cultural simulacra of natural phenomena. Sonfist is the pioneer of an alternative approach to working with nature and culture than parallels the Earth Art movement of the 1960s. Over the past four years he has created numerous landscape sculptures commissioned around the world, collaborating with each community to reintegrate aspects of an area's indigenous natural and cultural histories, fashioning a series of artistic biohistories. Illus., photos & drawings.
