When Yves Klein died of a heart attack in 1962, he was already a legend. Within just a few years, he had rocketed to the top of the international avant-garde. He was represented by the leading galleries of his time and exhibited at the most important art institutions. However, his pictures which hang on collectors' walls, in galleries and museums today are “only the ashes of my art”, as Klein himself stated. Throughout his life, he did his utmost to raise not just his works, but above all his actions to the level of art. His life and work merged inextricably in a way never seen before in any artist. Klein found this absolute reality in art, which was not a material object for him, but rather a spiritual state.
