Garage Archive’s collaboration with UNIQLO

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art and UNIQLO share a mission to improve life for everyone by providing accessible art and fashion for all.

In their new project, which brings together the love of art and universal functional clothing, Garage and UNIQLO offer an original perspective of the brand’s collection. UNIQLO outfits, based on rare photographs of Russian artists in the second half of the twentieth century from the Museum’s archive, can be seen at Garage’s zone on the third floor of the UNIQLO Atrium.

The first artists to have inspired the looks are Aidan Salakhova, Vyacheslav Koleychuk, and Eduard Steinberg—all well known for their impeccable style.

The program features a lecture "Life as Art: Fashion and Style from the 1960s to the 1990s" on December 17, 2017 by Garage Archive curator Sasha Obukhova, who will talk about the development of alternative Soviet fashion, focusing on the underground artists of Moscow and Leningrad.

The experiment is part of the long-term partnership between Garage and UNIQLO, launched earlier in 2017. Garage Archive is a growing collection of materials on Russian contemporary art. UNIQLO’s clothing, based on the brand’s LifeWear concept, helps create unique looks for any style and way of life.
