DESCRIPTION

This five-lecture cycle will look at the diverse directions of contemporary design and their points of intersection.

Cutting edge technology, augmented reality, dematerialization, glocalization, unusual recycling, the growing demand for craftsmen and new simplicity: the course explores museum projects, installations, and collections exhibited at international design weeks, as well as the most interesting items from collectible design fairs and 2017–2019 graduate works by students of the world’s top design schools. The audience will learn about the latest trends in contemporary design, be introduced to the practices of the most remarkable creators, and will see innovative objects devised and produced globally.

ABOUT THE LECTURER

Maria Savostyanova is an art historian and design critic, Deputy Editor-in-Chief at Interior+Design (2001-2018). Author of over 450 articles on consumer and collectible design. Senior teacher at the Theory and History of Culture Department at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, she has been reviewing major contemporary art and design exhibitions for fifteen years.
