Lecture Cycle: Rethinking Heritage. The Netherlands Experience

19:30–21:00

Place

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art

DESCRIPTION

The cycle of lectures looks into the preservation of architectural heritage in the Netherlands and explores various strategies of rethinking the heritage that include not only conservation, but also addition of new elements.

Architects, developers and researchers will speak about the key challenges in the preservation of architectural heritage today and provide examples of extraordinary and even radical preservation strategies. They will look into the economic benefits of reconstruction instead of building from scratch; the revival of old buildings through new functions; the way politics inform public attitude towards the heritage and other questions.

The lecture cycle is organized in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Russia and is part of the public program for the exhibition Convert. Adapt. Preserve, which is held in conjunction with FSCI CHMMA (Cultural and historical monuments management agency).
