Nineteen-year-old American Lucy (Liv Tyler) comes to Tuscany to spend the summer with friends of her late mother, who committed suicide, leaving behind a tangle of unsolved mysteries and unresolved love collisions dealing primarily with the figure of Lucy’s father, who Lucy never met. Lucy discovers her own nature in the process, dreaming of having her first sexual experience with the person who first kissed her.
Plunged into the endless landscapes of Tuscany, Stealing Beauty develops one of the key themes of Bertolucci’s work—youth as an era of innocence, confusion, revolutions, sensual and sexual cognition of the world, and farewell to the past, including home as its symbol.
