This screening includes video performances by Leonid Tishkov and the group Factory of Found Clothes, films by Tatiana Detkina and Platon Infante-Arana, and animated films by Viktor Donar and Sergei Kositsyn.
Leonid Tishkov is an artist, creator of objects, installations, artist’s books, photo and video works. Creatures of the Air is a poetic video of plastic bags in the wind, which are transformed through the artist’s lens into anthropomorphic figures. In the book of the same name, Tishkov described the event as follows: «The celestial ocean, once full of creatures, is coming to life again—the season of summer work in a high sunny field begins.»
In Memory of Poor Lisa is documentation of a seminal performance by the group Factory of Found Clothes (Natalia Pershina-Yakimanskaya (Gluklya) and Olga Egorova (Tsaplya)) dedicated to «all those who have lived the drama of unhappy love.» Wings of Migrants is a 2011 performance film, whose protagonists explore similarities and differences between artists and people with experience of migration.
Bats by Tatiana Detkina is one of the first Russian works of video art made using computer graphics.
Homourban by Platon Infante-Arana is a black-and-white collage about a person in the space of a modern city. The video Empty Action, created together with Andrei Monastyrsky, is a visualization of a term coined by the group Collective Actions, whose actions sometimes took place out of sight of viewers.
The screening will conclude with an animation by Viktor Dovnar and Sergei Kositsyn, created for Vladimir Bychkov’s science fiction film Flight to the Land of Monsters. These animated shots—a triumph of futurism and artistic fantasy—today seem like a movie in their own right.
