Date

Schedule

19:00–21:00

Place

description

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art has published a book on Soviet modernist architecture in Yerevan. Architectural historians Anna Bronovitskaya and Elena Markus, joined by architectural photographer Yuri Palmin, will come to Yerevan to present the publication, which worked on for over five years.

How did the authors select the buildings for their study, which range from the extremely laconic Khachatur Abovyan House-Museum to the monumental Sports and Concert Complex? What unexpected discoveries did they encounter? What distinguishes Yerevan modernism from that of Moscow, Leningrad, Almaty, and Tashkent, which are covered in other books in this series, and where do they overlap?

The authors and editor Karen Balyan, who also wrote the historical and urban-planning essay that opens the publication, will discuss these and other questions with managing editor Olga Dubitskaya.
The book will be available for purchase at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts shop. During the presentation, Yuri Palmin will demonstrate images from a special architectural photo shoot, including some not published in the book.

Garage is grateful to Tashir group of companies and personally to Tatevik Karapetyan, Garage Patron, for their support of this publication.
