DESCRIPTION

Kuchkovo Pole publishing house and the A.V. Shchusev State Museum of Architecture present the catalog book for a unique exhibition project introducing drawings, archival photographs and documents on architectural avant-garde.

This study of the Soviet architectural avant-garde — of its realized and a priori utopian projects — is based on the materials from the collection of the A.V. Shchusev State Museum of Architecture. The book’s chapters — GRADO (city-), GLAV (main-), KLUB (club-), ZDRAV (health-), PROM (industry-), ZHIL (housing-) — represent the discoveries of the 1920s and 1930s and the innovative structural types like Socialist city (Sotsgorod), People’s Commissariats and governments, Palaces of Culture, workers’ clubs, mass theaters, stadiums and sanatoriums, factory kitchens and kindergartens, communal houses and residential quarters.
