Ancestral (Re)Vision: Artist talk by Saodat Ismailova

DESCRIPTION

Artist and filmmaker Saodat Ismailova will talk about the phenomenon of collective memory and the possibility of its visualization.

The talk will focus on the act of reviewing ancestral memories, which can be interpreted as a movement towards healing, recovery, and possible resistance. At the center of Ismailova’s work is the space that women occupy in Uzbekistan’s society and the myths, legends, and rites that come into the present through the dialogue between generations that has not been interrupted even by the new political and religious context.

The works of Saodat Ismailova focus on the invisible space inhabited by the sacred collective memory. She will speak about ways of studying and visualizing that space and relating it to the contemporary condition.

The artist talk is part of the education program of the 6th Moscow International Experimental Film Festival (MIEFF).
