Born in the village of Ashnak (Armenia), Hovsepian graduated from Terlemezian State College of Arts (Yerevan, 1974). He lived and worked in Moscow from 1978 to 1980. Hovsepian participated in the 49th Venice Biennale (2001), the 4th Gyumri Biennial (2004), the 11th Istanbul Biennial (2009), and the 5th Beijing Biennale (2012).
