Tatyana Nazarenko was born in Moscow in 1944. She graduated from Moscow Surikov State Institute of Fine Arts (studios of Aleksei Gritsai and Dmitry Zhilinsky, 1968). From 1969 to 1972 she worked in the studio of the Soviet Academy of Arts under Geliy Korzhev, and from 1999 to 2016 was professor and studio head at Moscow Surikov State Academic Institute of Fine Arts. She has had solo exhibitions at the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow), the State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), Moscow Museum of Modern Art, and other museums in Russia and abroad. In 1982 she was among the artists representing the Soviet Union at the 40th Venice Biennale. She has been awarded the title of the People’s Artist of Russia (2014), the State Award of the Russian Federation (1993), and the Moscow Government Prize in Fine Art (1999). She was a member of the Soviet Union of Artists (from 1969) and is a full member and Presidium member of the Russian Academy of Arts (since 2001).
