Polina Kanis was born in Leningrad. She graduated from Herzen Russian State Pedagogical Institute (St. Petersburg), Rodchenko Art School (Moscow), and the Rijksakademie (Amsterdam). She is a recipient of the Kandinsky Prize in the nomination Young Artist. Project of the Year (2011) and the Sergey Kuryokhin Prize in the nomination Best Media Object (2015).
