Maxim Kantor: Paintings 1982–1994
In this book we can see paintings 1982–1994 of the renowned artist is representative of a new generation on russian artists who, in an age of transition, are seeking a new way of dealing with art. A profound knowledge of art history, a comprehensive general education, a strong compassion for suffering people as well as a vigorous tackling of past and immediate Soviet history characterize Maxim Kantor’s work. The painter, born in Moscow in 1957, expresses his sympathy with the oppressed in his large-scale, intense colored and expressive pictures and calls others to rally in solidarity as well. The fears, misery and hunger, loneliness and despair of the individual and the logic of interpersonal relationships are his subjects.
