Emil Nolde: Retrospective
Published to accompany the personal exhibition held at Staedel Museum, Frankfurt, 5.03.2014-15.06.2014 and Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebaek, 4.07.2014-19.10.2014. A comprehensive overview of Emil Nolde, this book traces the artist’s entire career, providing new perspectives on his life and work. Known as a master of color, Emil Nolde used many different types of media besides painting, including watercolor, drawing, and prints, to create works such as his numerous flower paintings and coastal landscapes. The book explores Nolde’s expressionist painting technique and reexamines his motives as an artist by looking at how his works were received and how this was shaped by the artist’s image of himself.
