The bilingual book Личный выбор: работы из частных коллекций современного искусства. Personal Choice: Collectors’ Selections From Their Own Collections was published in 2014 to accompany the eponymous exhibition at Garage, which was dedicated to art collectors in Russia.

Личный выбор: работы из частных коллекций современного искусства. Personal Choice: Collectors’ Selections From Their Own Collections, published in two languages, explores the little-studied but culturally important phenomenon of contemporary art collecting in Russia.

The 23 collectors taking part in the project (including Mikhail Alshibaya, Viktor Bondarenko, Konstantin Grigorishin, Dasha Zhukova and Roman Abramovich, Iveta and Tamaz Manasherov, Igor Markin and Andrey Cheglakov) were asked to choose one work from their personal collections and comment on their choice. Examining the unique relationship between artworks and their owners, the project studied art collecting as a subjective and social phenomenon, showing how personal opinions are connected to public life, and how personal choices become informed by social responsibility.

The catalogue features color illustrations of works by Alexander Brodsky, AES+F, Oleg Tselkov, Alexander Calder, Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe, Andy Warhol, Valery Koshlyakov, Vitaly Komar and Alexander Melamid, Semyon Faibisovich, Sergei Bratkov, Ai Weiwei, and other Russian and international artists.

The book will be of interest to art professionals as well as to the general reader.
