Garage’s Open Systems Project to Continue in Krasnoyarsk

Date

22 AUG 2016

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art reaches out to new exhibition spaces in the regions to bring contemporary art to viewers across the country.

Krasnoyarsk Museum Center will be hosting the fourth iteration of Open Systems—a research project initiated by Garage, exploring self-organized initiatives in Russian art through the perspectives of artists who have pioneered new forms of cooperation in the art world, autonomous from institutions and commercial structures.

The exhibition in Krasnoyarsk will feature sixty-nine projects from fifteen Russian cities. A special focus on Siberia—represented by Monstration Fest SoMA and 2SoMA art spaces from Novosibirsk, Bystrovka project and Otdel Gallery from Krasnoyarsk, D-9 creative studio from Barnaul, and Ikra Center for Contemporary Culture from Irkutsk among other projects—will allow visitors to understand what is special and unique about self-organization in the region.

An important addition to the project in Krasnoyarsk is the first Open Community laboratory—an educational experiment that encourages young artists from Siberia to set up their own self-organized initiatives. The laboratory will be curated by Vasily and Stepan Subbotin, both members of ZIP art group, founders of the Krasnodar Institute of Contemporary Art, and Open Systems participants.

The exhibition will be on until October 30.
