Playlists for the current exhibitions at the Rooftop Pavilion

DJ Timofey has created playlists inspired by the current exhibitions at Garage for the Museum’s Rooftop Pavilion, each reflecting the connections and intersections between the eras explored in the projects.

"We Treasure Our Lucid Dreams." The Other East and Esoteric Knowledge in Russian Art, 1905–1969

The playlist inspired by “secret knowledge,” the history of esoteric societies, and the paintings of the Pre-Raphaelites of Samarkand and the Russian Cosmists of the 1960s includes well-known melodies by Eduard Artemiev, works by contemporary composers from Iceland, unexpected findings from Central Asia, and new age and cinematic ambient tracks.

Sekretiki: Digging Up Soviet Underground Culture, 1966–1985

Psychedelic folk from across the world. The sad young people of the 1960s and 1970s run to the forests to listen beautiful songs with guitar accompaniment.

Atelier E.B: Passer-by

New wave, minimal wave, and synthwave from European capitals. Trendy young people gather in the bars of Berlin, Edinburgh, and Brussels to listen to simple tunes played on two synths and a drum machine. The themes of songs are the same as ever: Does love exist? Where do you go from the metal and concrete city (to find love)?

Monika Sosnowska. Exercises in Construction, Bending

Bending metal structures, the noise of transistors, radio wave interference… this playlist features early experiments with electronic instruments in the 1950s and 1960s.

Garage Rooftop Pavilion is open to GARAGE cardholders on Sundays from 11:00 to 22:00. Membership can be purchased online.
