Garage Museum of Contemporary Art announces the recipients of grants in 2018–2019

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art announces the winners of its 2018–2019 grants program in support of emerging Russian artists and of the Signet Land Art grant for an artist to create a land art work in Moscow’s Gorky Park.

Currently the only program of its kind in the country, the Garage grants program was launched in 2012 in order to support emerging artists. By allowing artists a period of financial independence, the program enables them to become more deeply engaged in creative activities, to grow professionally, and to conduct research.

Applications were accepted between July 16 and September 28, during which period over 280 were received. Eight artists will be awarded grants.

The 2018–2019 expert committee for the program in support of emerging Russian artists selected the following artists: Elena Anosova (Irkutsk), Ian Ginzburg (Moscow), Ekaterina Reshetnikova (Moscow), Anna Rotaenko (Moscow), Igor Samolet (Moscow), and art group Gorod Ustinov (Izhevsk). Anastasia Bogomolova (Ekaterinburg) had her scholarship extended.

Winners receive a monthly stipend of 30,000 rubles and are invited to take part in Garage exhibition and education programs.

The members of the 2018–2019 expert committee for the program in support of emerging Russian artists are: Аlexander Burenkov, Senior Specialist Regional Development, ROSIZO-NCAA; Оksana Budulak, Сurator and PR Director, Ploshchad Mira Museum Center, Krasnoyarsk; Snejana Krasteva, Curator, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art; and Кonstantin Zatsepin, Deputy Director, Middle Volga Branch, ROSIZO-NCCA, Samara.

In 2016, as part of its collaboration with Glenmorangie and Gorky Park, Garage expanded the program to include the Signet Land Art grant, to encourage artists to produce works for Gorky Park. Previous winners are Nikolay Polissky, Alexander Povzner, and Valery Kazas.

The winner of the 2018–2019 Signet Land Art grant is Maria Plaksina from Ekaterinburg. She will receive a monthly stipend of 30,000 rubles, a trip to Scotland, and the Signet Land Art commission for a land art work in Moscow’s Gorky Park, which must be completed by May 2019 and will be exhibited for up to 12 months.
