Garage’s minor program Contemporary Art: An Introduction to History and Museum and Exhibition Practices

In spring 2018, we launched the university-wide minor (an optional course for undergraduates) Contemporary Art: An Introduction to History and Museum and Exhibition Practices.

Developed by Garage experts, the minor allows students to explore contemporary artistic processes, both in the context of the development of intellectual thought and based on the study of individuals and projects. Students are offered courses on the history of art in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries and the institutional environment of the cultural industry.

One of the aims of the course is to present the field of culture as a potential place of work for a wide range of specialists. Minor students have gone on to take the Garage master’s program, work as interns on master’s students’ exhibition projects or create educational projects at cultural institutions.

Contemporary Art: An Introduction to History and Museum and Exhibition Practices is one of the most popular minors at HSE University. Several hundred students from over 30 undergraduate programs have taken it.

From 2023 the minor will not be offered.
