In June 2018 Russia will host the FIFA World Cup, which will span eleven cities. Garage will mark this important footballing occasion with a new exhibition developed specially by photographer Juergen Teller, who is a keen football fan.

Arguably one of the most original voices in his field, Teller has been published in magazines such as Arena Homme+, POP Magazine, Vogue, Purple, i-D, Die Zeit, and W Magazine, and has created campaigns for Céline, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Adidas, and Vivienne Westwood. Teller’s work has been exhibited in major shows internationally and is featured in numerous collections around the world. He has published forty-five books and exhibition catalogues and currently holds a Professorship of Photography at the Academy of Fine Arts, Nuremberg.

Public program

The public program accompanying Juergen Teller’s exhibition Zittern auf dem Sofa explores subjects and contexts that connect art and football.

Eddy Frankel, the founder and chief editor of the London-based OOFmagazine devoted to art and football, will speak about the idea behind the publication and share his thoughts on the relationship between football and art. 

The exhibition’s curator Valentin Diaconov will discuss grassroots football and the gap between amateur and professional games with photographer Sergey Novikov—the founder of Grassrootsdocumentary project devoted to grassroots football.

The closing event in the program is the 11thMoscow International Cycling Night—a cycling tour of the city that attracts thousands of participants. The Great Football River tour will look at thehistory of ideological debates surrounding the game, fans’ clashes, the greatest matches that have taken place in the city and strange turns in the lives of Russian star footballers.
