Podcast for the exhibition Assuming Distance: Speculations, Fakes, and Predictions in the Age of the Coronacene
The podcast by the presenters of Fake News on TV Rain offers an introduction to the exhibition and a commentary from the point of view of investigative journalism and fake news debunking.
The exhibition Assuming Distance: Speculations, Fakes, and Predictions in the Age of the Coronacene shows works by artists and creative collectives living and working in Russia who express any kind of opinion with regards to the Covid-19 situation: what it can tell us about our future and what would happen if it all went differently. Considering speculations in a broad philosophical sense: as a form of interaction with reality and/or as speculative reasoning about the possible, the show encourages the viewer always to suspect that the artist might be tricking them.
To make the exploration of their speculations and fakes easier, Garage has invited Fake News presenters, Masha Borzunova and Lyosha Korostylyov, whose program is devoted to watching the news to detect manipulations with numbers, words, and footage, to comment on the exhibition.
Without providing a detailed art-historical analysis of the works in the exhibition, the podcast offers general ideas about how to approach the objects, topics, and issues raised by the artists and the curators. It also reminds us about the importance of remaining critical when consuming information via any medium.
The podcast is available on Apple Podcast, SoundCloud, VK Podcasts, and Yandex.Music.
