Women and Cinematography in the Middle East: A Discussion

Date

Schedule

19:00–21:00

Place

Garage Auditorium

DESCRIPTION

The key image Mehrnoush Alia works with in the film 1001 Frames is of the storyteller Scheherazade.

Her voice helped her survive, but would she have told her stories if she had a choice? And what would her stories have been about? In the discussion that accompanies the screening of 1001 Frames, participants will discuss the stories that contemporary women directors from the Middle East choose to share and whether they are supported in their work. They will also look at how the depiction of women in Middle Eastern films has changed in recent years and whether we should adjust our own lens to learn to see the invisible.
