DESCRIPTION

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art will host screenings as part of the fifth ART Newspaper Russia FILM FESTIVAL, organized by The Art Newspaper Russia.

Garage Screen summer cinema will run the Russian premiere of Rebecca Lamarche-Vadel and Davis Simanis’ film and suddenly it all blossoms, with Boris Miljkovic’s documentary Homecoming: Marina Abramović and Her Children to be shown in Garage Auditorium. While documenting important art events, the 2nd Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art and Marina Abramović’s traveling retrospective The Cleaner, respectively, the films also provide artistic statements about the local and global, the search for one’s identity and home, a new fascination with the world and the material nature of art. Lamarche-Vadel and Simanis are radically rethinking the format of the biennial, shooting a film to bring the exhibition to an international audience who had no physical access to it under the COVID-19 restrictions. Abramović finds a new home after moving to the U.S.—an institute named after her—along with a family of re-performers who repeat her famous actions—but is forced to face the ghosts of the past upon returning to her hometown, Belgrade.
