DESCRIPTION

Garage Library resumes a series of seminars on reading and discussing the book Art Since 1990: Modernism, Antimodernism, Postmodernism. In October 2017, the group will begin its study of one the key art history publications in the world, tracing a period from the first decade of the twentieth century and until the late 1940s.

The book in Russian translation was published in October 2015, making it into one of the most important events on the local artistic and intellectual scene. That is also when the first seminar meeting at Garage took place.

During the seminars at Garage Library readers will be guided step by step through the paths of art from the year of 1900 till 2010.

The seminar is split into several parts according to the book’s chapters.

The meetings will be devoted to the cultural-historical section of the book. They will cover theoretical approaches to studying art history, such as psychoanalysis, social history of art, formalism and structuralism, also post-structuralism and deconstruction.

Anyone interested in the history and theory of contemporary art is invited to the seminar. Participants should register with the library, start reading the book Art From 1990 and take part in the group discussion. The most active members of the group will be given a free copy of one of the books, released between 2012 and 2014 under the collaborative publishing program by Garage Museum and Ad Marginem publishing house.
