DESCRIPTION

Alicia Vikander, Judi Dench, and Christoph Waltz star in a historical drama by directed by BAFTA winner Justin Chadwick and written by Tom Stoppard. Garage will be screening the film on the day of its release.

The film is set in the seventeenth-century during the tulip mania in the Dutch Republic, which allowed many people to make a fortune selling tulip bulbs.

Striving to capture the fleeting (like a flower’s blossom) beauty of a woman, a rich merchant Cornelis (Waltz) invites an artist named Jean to paint a portrait of his wife Sophia (Vikander). With each session, the artist gets to know his model a little bit better and eventually falls in love with her. Cornelis is determined to put an end to their romance, and the desperate lovers decide to take a risk by investing in the tulip market, hoping to build a future together.
