DESCRIPTION

This film adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's famous book follows Raoul Duke (Johnny Depp) and Dr. Gonzo (Benicio Del Toro) on a wild journey that turns into a psychedelic trip.

This film is hallucinatory, rambling and devoid of clear narrative. It aimed to translate the book's stream of consciousness effect onto the screen and is considered one of the most transgressive studio productions ever made. This Universal Studios’ effort predictably failed at the box office but achieved a cult status nevertheless, due to its celebrity cast, Thompson's notoriety and a white Cadillac, which became a character in its own right, along with Raul Duke and Doctor Gonzo star in this road movie. Participating in this controversial project—that has a cult following among dedicated cinephiles—was incredibly significant for the brand. Cadillac epitomizes the liberated, uninhibited and rebellious spirit of America in the 1970s, a spirit at odds with the idea of the Nixon era respectable citizen.
