Screening: Burden

DESCRIPTION

Russian premiere of the film about Chris Burden, the American artist, who gained worldwide fame thanks to his extreme performances, and later no less amazing installations and sculptures. This documentary was filmed after Chris Burden's death in 2015. It gives an insight into the radical and extreme life and work of this famous artist.

Burden earned his place in the art history books in the 1970s when he came up with a series of dangerous, at times stomach churning performances. He had himself shot, locked up in a 2x2x3 locker for five days, electrocuted, and crucified on the back of a VW Beetle. He reinvented himself as the creator of truly mesmerizing installations and sculptures, from a suspended gigantic flywheel that seemingly spins on its own (and scarily picks up speed) to an assemblage of antique street lights rewired for solar energy which are illuminated outside the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Burden is the first film collaboration by Timothy Marrinan and Richard Dewey. The directors meticulously explore a complex, ever-evolving individual who became one of the most admired artists of his generation.
