Sashiko: Traditional Upcycling from Japan. A Masterclass with Irina Kozlovskikh

Date

Place

Garage Rooftop

DESCRIPTION

Sustainable fashion expert Irina Kozlovskikh will introduce participants to the sashiko technique and help them give a new life to garments they bring with them.

The relatively new phenomenon of upcycling continues the old tradition of recycling clothes that are no longer suitable for wearing. Various such practices have existed in Japan since the seventeenth century, and sashiko is one of the most striking examples. Using plain running stitch and white thread on blue cloth, people reinforced garments around points of wear and put on patches, making clothes more durable or giving them a new life.
