DESCRIPTION

En route to the 5th GARAGE ART BOOK FAIR, BOOMkniga publishing house will run a public talk with Craig Thompson, an American artist and author of the graphic novel Blankets.

Craig Thompson is an American graphic novelist and artist, winner of four Harvey Awards, three Eisner Awards, and two Ignatz Awards.

The creation of Blankets, Thompson’s debut graphic novel, dates back to 1999 when he was working as an artist and designer for various companies. Published in 2004, Blankets instantly grabbed all of the most prestigious comic book awards in the U.S.

So far, two books by Thompson— Blankets (BOOMkniga publishing house) and Space Dumplins (MIF publishing house)—have been published in Russian.

Blankets is an autobiographic novel where Thompson implements graphic language to recall the suffering and doubts of his coming-of-age period. Set against the backdrop of Midwestern American winter landscapes, the events described in these frank memoirs depict the provincial life of a Christian family where the severity of parental control is proportional with the strictness of religious belief. Blankets is a vivid portrait of the vulnerable teen age marked by loneliness and confusion, first love and a broken heart, the crisis of faith and the search of oneself. Thompson’s expressive drawings and amazing graphic compositions combine for a highly recognizable story for readers of all generations across the globe.
