A program of documentary and fiction shorts made by graduates of the Gorky Film Studios educational project PROkino Cinema Laboratory will be screened in Garage Auditorium September 6 and 7.
PROkino Cinema Laboratory is a non-profit education project at the Gorky Film Studio. For this project, eleven film schools got together to create an open lecture auditorium aimed at providing a better understanding of the various tools and methods of modern cinematography. This program of films is the result of a fortnight-length course, the participants have produced short works in both documentary and fiction genres, exploring the theme of cinema per se (hence the title). All films were made under the guidance of acclaimed directors including Irakli Kvirikadze, Zhora Kryzhovnikov, Alexander Voytinsky, Andrey Dobrovolsky and Vera Storozheva. The project is part of Russian Cinema Year and cinema is the common topic behind all the pictures presented. The documentary section was curated by Elena Demilova (a student of Marina Razbezhkina, the author of over a dozen documentaries, nominee and winner at a number of film festivals), along with the School of Documentary Film and the Theater of Marina Razbezhkina and Mikhail Ugarov.
