DESCRIPTION

In June Garage published the book Béla Tarr, the Time After, a retrospective study of the work of the Hungarian filmmaker and a manifesto for Jacques Rancière’s theory of film.

The book’s academic editor Inna Kushnaryova, filmmaker Alexander Zolotukhin and film critic Sergey Dyoshin will discuss the Béla Tarr’s oeuvre, the way his work has influenced contemporary Russian filmmakers, his investigation of crumbling communist ideals, and the role that time plays in his method.

ABOUT THE PARTICIPANTS

Sergey Dyoshin is one of the co-founders of the website Cineticle.com. He has written for Seance, Iskusstvo kino, Afisha, Kino TV, Colta.ru, and other media. In 2016 he founded the independent film distribution company Cineticle Films. Since 2017 he has curated KARO.Art.

Alexander Zolotukhin is a film director and screenwriter who studied with Alexander Sokurov. His films include Ornament, Life Story of My Friend, A Russian Youth, and Brother Every Inch.

Inna Kushnaryova is a cultural historian. She has been on the editorial board of the journal Logos since 2016 and has developed and taught the course «Non-Classical Aesthetic Categories» at the Moscow School of New Film. She has written for Seance, Iskusstvo kino, Kinovedcheskiye zapiski, Logos, Logos Review of Books, and other media.
