Desires and disquiet arise in a girl coming of age in a coastal town in Lucia Garibaldi’s debut feature, which brought her the Best Director at Sundance 2019.
In a small coastal town, boats have been returning home with fewer fish than usual. Perhaps, the fishermen should blame the shark allegedly spotted by Rosina, a girl of fifteen who claims to have seen its fin. The town’s population are unconvinced, as sharks are hardly ever seen in local waters. While they investigate the case, Rosina falls in love with Joselo, who initially responds to her charms, but soon loses interest, leaving her hurt and angry…
Just like sharks lurk under the surface of the sea, so hidden desires trouble the girl who seems calm and detached on the outside. Lucía Garibaldi’s debut feature is an honest and convincing portrait of a delicate teenager confronted by sexual desire and discovering within her a dangerous force she has not encountered before.
