DESCRIPTION

Point of Displacement is an annual event timed to World Refugee Day that brings together experts and those who are interested in creating inclusive spaces and society development. In 2023, it will take place in Moscow, Vladivostok, Orenburg, Saint Petersburg and Tyumen.

The program, which has been devised by the Inclusive Programs Department at Garage, focuses on reflecting individual experience and opportunities for self-expression at a time when the present is subject to unpredictable change.

This year, Garage Inclusive Programs Department invites representatives of the professional museum community, those with experience, and staff of non-commercial and social projects in the field of migration  to consider their experience and those projects completed in recent years.

One of the central events at Point of Displacement 2023 will be a presentation of the methodological handbook Experiencing the Museum: Working with Visitors with Migration Experience, which brings together the experience of Garage in this field since 2018. After the presentation there will be a discussion and a construction of possible scenarios of development for programs in the field of ethnocultural diversity.

Over the weekend there will be a presentation of a zine by participants of the third season of the teens’ program Ilkhom, architectural walks with Armenian and Kyrgyz speakers for adults and children, and a discussion on local traditions during the collective preparation of food in the pavilion on Garage Rooftop.

Presentation of the methodology handbook Experiencing the Museum: Working with Visitors with Experience of Migration

The presentation of the methodology handbook is constructed as a public discussion by the authors around their own texts. How do we describe the experiences of belonging to «another» culture and of displacement? How do ethnocultural diversity and museum initiatives intersect?
