DESCRIPTION

Garage will be hosting for an evening of poetry readings, The Mysterious Staircase Rise, celebrating what would have been Bella Akhmadulina's eightieth birthday. The event has organized with the support of Alisher Usmanov’s Art, Science and Sport Charity Foundation. The poetry readings have been created by Lev Dodin’s Maly Drama Theatre–Theatre De L’Europe.

Bella Akhmadulina was one of the greatest Russian lyrical poets, writer, translator, novelist, the winner of the USSR State Prize (1989). Poetry performances by Bella Akhmadulina were always a highlight of the cultural life of the country. She became a symbol of a generation, and the founder of the high poetic style in modern poetry.Many of her poems became songs that entered the repertoire of famous Russian artists. Many of them accompany the audience's favorite films, including the legendary The Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath!  and  The Cruel Romance by Eldar Ryazanov

The evening will be devoted to the brightest period of the 1960s—which inscribed new names in the annals of Russian poetry—and the special place occupied by Bella Akhmadulina. The audience will hear poems performed by actors of The Maly Drama Theatre–Theatre De L’Europe: Elizaveta Boyarskaya, Arthur Kozin, Danila Kozlovsky, Lyubov Konstantinova, Nadezhda Nekrasova, Stanislav Nikolsky, Oleg Ryazantsev, Evgeny Sannikov,Elena Solomonova, and Ivan Chepura  Special guests at the event will be the authors of the book Bella. After the meeting, the writers and journalists Marina Zavada and Yuri Kulikov, who knew Bella Akhmadulina.
