Artist Arseny Zhilyaev will explain how to implement educational activities in museums— “the avant-garde museums of the early twentieth century” along with contemporary ones.
For over ten years Arseny Zhilyaev has been working with museum as his main medium. The artist’s attraction began with the intention to understand the didactic options available at former museums of the revolution, before gradually evolving into an exploration of alternative approaches to exhibition making in the field of art of the post proletarian revolution period.
Zhilyaev will describe his experience of organizing a project in the format of an education initiative at the “Presnya” Historical and Memorial Museum, which derived from active interaction with local communities and work with archival records. The artist will also share the history of the “avant-garde museology” phenomenon and will speak about the legacies of experimental exhibition projects of the 1920s–1930s and their application on the territory of contemporary art today.
