Oral History 2.0: A Course for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Visitors

Date

Schedule

12 sessions of 120 minutes on Thursdays

DESCRIPTION

Course participants will discuss why we tell stories and how they can help us to study and conceptualize the link with the heritage of the deaf community.

The aim of the course is to provide experience of interaction with the heritage of our community with the help of creative interpretation of real episodes in the history of deaf people. Participants will gain concrete skills for the production of cultural products.

To take part, participants choose a suitable medium and join one of three workshops: sign language stories, comics or interviews. Each workshop will have its own aim, as set by the project team and an invited specialist, who will lead the sessions. Workshop leaders include Nikolai Shmelev, editor-in-chief of the news portal Glukhikh.Net, Aleksei Znamensky, actor with Nedoslov Theater and Russian Sign Language teacher, and comics artist and illustrator Evgenia Zakharova, who teaches courses on making short comic strips and will lead the comics workshop.

The program will start on October 5, 2023.

If you have any questions, you can attend the course open day at Garage on September 17 at 16.00.
