DESCRIPTION

The program consists of a series of group discussions with audio description in the space of Open Storage. A Prologue, led by a Garage guide, and creative workshops adapted for blind and partially sighted visitors.

One-work Talk is a format of contemporary art discussion where each meeting is focused on a particular work in the collection.

Participants will discuss three works from the project Open Storage. A Prologue: Kristina Pashkova’s The Eye of the Mistress; a series by Gor Chahal; and works by the group World Champions. An audio description and tactile models have been prepared for each meeting. Each meeting will include a discussion and a workshop in a studio.

The program starts on February 8, 2025 and is open to blind and sighted visitors aged 12 or older.

HOW TO TAKE PART

Each session is for up to 10 visitors. The program consists of 3 meetings of 90 minutes each.

Visitors are welcome to register for separate sessions or the entire program. Sessions are free, but a ticket is required to visit Open Storage. A Prologue. To register please send an email to blind@garagemca.org.

Third Meeting: The Eye of the Mistress by Kristina Pashkova

The third session will explore Kristina Pashkova’s work The Eye of the Mistress, which examines the connection between weaving and the history of computing. The reality of the textiles in the installation is expanded through visual poetry, video and sound.

The meeting will also feature a tactile module that is part of Kristina Pashkova’s installation. During the workshop participants will encode their own messages through weaving.

Second Meeting: A Poet and a Gun. Gor Chahal

The second session will begin with a tour of Gor Chahal’s works in various media: collages, paintings, and poems. A mathematician by education, Gor Chahal is a poet, creator of musical and poetry performances, and one of the pioneers of multimedia art in Russia. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was an active participant in the Moscow underground art and rock scenes.

The second part of the session will take place in the studio, where participants will make collages from a poem, instant photographs, and drawings.
