A long-awaited performance by the French singer, actress, and cultural ambassador.
Mosaic Music brings to Russia for the first time the actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg, daughter of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, who started her musical career thirty-five years ago by recording a song and music video with her father. She has been active in music and film and under the media spotlight ever since. Along with her work in film (Gainsbourg was awarded Best Actress at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival for her role in Lars von Trier’s Antichrist), Gainsbourg is an acclaimed musician, who has collaborated with Air, Beck, Jarvis Cocker, and Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. She is coming to Moscow with her album Rest, listed among the best records of 2017 by Pitchfork, The Guardian, and The Independent.
Gainsbourg calls Rest her most personal album and the darkest of her records—an honest self-portrait that explores the extremes of pain caused by the death of a loved one (Charlotte’s sister Kate Barry committed suicide in 2013). Rest is also the first album for which she wrote most of the lyrics (with the exception of Songbird in a Cage written by and featuring Paul McCartney), mixing French with English. French electronic musician SebastiAn, who produced the record, gave it a cold noir sound. As Gainsbourg explains, she wanted to mix disco beats with the horror films of her childhood.
