Made in Russia 2: Premiere + Q&A

DESCRIPTION

The second program in the shnit national competition features Russian shorts in a variety of genres and styles, including a contemporary interpretation of Romeo and Juliette (Boris Vedensky), a coming-of-age story of a Buryat girl (Diana Mashanova), and a kawaii meta farce about a fairy girl (Anatoly Koblov). The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.

In a contemporary Romeo-and-Juliette story scored by the rock band Daite tank(!) a young and withdrawn soldier of the National Guard Forces lives in his own little world—just like his pet snail. One day he saves a political activist Nat from being arrested as an “ideologically unstable person.”

The almost wordless short film is a story told using pantomime. During World War II, a troupe of traveling circus performers take an orphaned girl under their wing. Soon, as the Nazis confront the troupe, only the juggling girl can save some of them.

The protagonist of the documentary portrait, 30-year-old Sashka, lives in a communal flat in Kostroma. Unable to find his calling in life, he is addicted to alcohol and drugs. He tried to find refuge in a monastery but eventually escaped and now makes a little bit of money painting icons. Will he find inner balance?

The Sailor Moon-inspired psychedelic short follows two flatmates: one overcome by the threats posed by global warming, the other a fairy girl trying to help her friend. The narrator, constantly breaking the fourth wall, is played by Miloš Biković (Ice).
