Let’s Play with Mikhail Maksimov: You Pass, They Die, Then You Die

DESCRIPTION

One of the artists in IAM, Mikhail Maksimov will present several games he has developed and talk about game technology in his art.

Mikhail Maksimov uses innovative technology to explore topics ranging from Russian mysticism, theosophy, and cosmism to forensics and railroad aesthetics. His metaphorical and poetic works are made using a game engine, 3D graphics, mathematical algorithms, and neural networks. He develops his own games, which can also be seen as artworks. Visitors will see his games Replace Me, Mom Game, The Pasture and Rod4enko Rampage, learn about the use of video games in art and its making and get an insight into Maksimov’s complex philosophy.

ABOUT THE PARTICIPANTS

Mikhail Maksimov (b. 1974, Moscow) is an artist based in Moscow. His interests include gravity, railroad transport, and forensics. He has worked with digital ballistics, made structures of various materials and production waste. He has taught at Rodchenko Art School and currently teaches Game Engine Technology and Its Use in Art at the British Higher School of Art and Design, Multimedia Art Department.


Yuri Yurkin is an art historian, coordinator of the scientific department of the Garage Museum. He graduated from the Perm State Pedagogical University and the St. Petersburg University of Technology and Design. Worked in the Perm Art Gallery, Moscow Museum of Modern Art, founded the project Brewhouse.
